The Mother of God Church, in the village of Majorda is also known as the Mae de Deus church or‘Mae de Deus Igreja em Majorda, Goa’ in Portuguese. Mother of God Church ,Majorda was founded in 1588. On the 5th of May, 1588 the foundation stone of the church was laid wherein an image of Our Lady was placed in a wooden box in an opening. History has it, that The Church was set on fire by the Marathas during an invasion, in April 1738.During this time, The chapel of Our Lady of Piety built in 1691, served as the Parish Church. The church was reconstructed in 1739. Devotions to the Blessed Virgin Mary are held in great reverence.

There are two feasts of the Blessed Virgin Mary celebrated in Majorda which are Mother of God celebrated on First Sunday of May and Boa Morte (Good Death) on the first Sunday of October.
